Type Locality and Naming
This Formation was named by Dong Hegao in 1978 and was first publicly cited in 1996 by the Rock Stratigraphy Compilation Group of the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Type locality is located near the Baili Mountain in Hebuksail Mongolian Autonomous County, Xinjiang (center-northernmost Tacheng Prefecture; ca. 46.8° N, 85.7° E)

Lithology and Thickness
Grayish green, yellow, grayish white, dark gray, white sandstone, mudstone, conglomerate unequal thickness interbedded, interbedded carbonaceous mudstone and inferior coal, 46.5 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The bottom, gray-white quartz conglomerate. Next older regional unit is the Baikouquan Fm conglomerates.
Upper contact
The top boundary is in pseudo-conformity contact with the Lower Jurassic Badaowan Formation.
Regional extent
In Hebuksail County, the thickness is 46.5-69 m; to the southwest to the Tuoli area, it is 101 m thick.
